Abbey returns

Sir, – You report that the remains of the original Abbey theatre saved and stored by Dublin city architect Daithí Hanley are to be included in the development of a new open-air venue by the Liffey docks ("Rubble from old Abbey to be used to build Dublin open-air theatre", April 4th). My understanding is that Mr Hanley had in fact secured most of the facade of the original entrance, hardly deserving of its description as "old Abbey rubble". Would it not be more fitting that whatever has survived be reinstated in its spiritual home in the planned extension to the existing theatre? – Yours, etc,

JAMES

CONNOLLY HERON,

Ranelagh, Dublin 6.
