Madam, - Noel Brett, chief executive of the Road Safety Authority (Motors, December 19th) apparently spends "many hours behind the wheel" driving between offices in Dublin and Ballina.

Surely Mr. Brett is aware that the more you drive, the higher are your chances of being involved in an accident - advanced driving certificate or not. Considering that he talks about the volume of work he has to do, he is either driving outside office hours, in which case he will be tired and a greater hazard, or he is wasting working time - not even able to take phone calls.

He could travel between Dublin and Ballina, work when he wants, take mobile phone calls or close his eyes if he is tired - by taking the train! Surely that's the best option for road safety. - Yours, etc,
