Sir, - As a long-time PAYE taxpayer I have become conditioned to having to bail out less fortunate individuals and companies who have found themselves in financial difficulties.

I must confess that I made no contribution to Mr Charles Haughey, but then again, he never made me aware of his difficulties.

However, if someone will supply me with the names of the Ansbacher account holders - in total confidence, of course - I will set about distributing among them my savings and surplus income (such as it is) to fortify them against the dreadful day when they will have to settle their tax affairs.

I have also set up a small savings account in my credit union out of which I intend to fund a holiday for indigent politicians next summer if things work out. I hope to be able to offer them the exclusive use of a caravan in Tramore for a few days. No strings attached.
