Sir, - A trip on the no. 45 bus this morning turned out quite unexpectedly to be a most pleasant experience.

First stop: an expectant woman from Jamaica joined the journey and was offered a seat by an Irish gentleman.

Second stop: an elderly Nigerian, obviously suffering from a disability, was aided by a young girl to a seat.

Third stop: a middle-aged Romanian carrying her young daughter and a buggy attempted to board. This person was assisted up the steps by one passenger whilst another stowed her buggy.

All in the space of ten minutes. Might I suggest that those currently despairing at the current discourse concerning interculturism or the lack of it, should try the same trip some morning in a bid to restore their belief in the ability of the Irish to welcome and indeed respect difference. - Yours, etc.,
