Madam, – I was delighted to learn that the Minister for the Environment, John Gormley, has recently introduced new regulations banning quad bikes and scrambler motorbikes from large areas of mountain, forest and beaches, including Inch beach in Co Kerry (Home News, July 31st).
About one month ago as I was walking on Inch Strand I saw six quad bikers tearing through the sand dunes. A path had been developed from the beach to give them access.
These beautiful dunes are over 5km long and are one of the largest dune fields in Ireland.
Serious damage has already been caused to the area by these bikers and it will be interesting to see what, if any, action will now be taken to stop these vandals. – Yours, etc,
