‘Binary’ – double trouble?

A chara, – When I was young (not too long ago), the word “binary” only ever came up in maths class when we were “doing our sums”. Now I cannot open a newspaper, turn on a TV or radio or listen to a politician, broadcaster or pundit without hearing someone say that they or someone else has a “binary decision” to make (or, as seems to be the current required usage, “to face”). It seems that one is not being current or serious if one does not get this in somewhere. May I ask if this the fashionable phrase of the month? Did I just miss the memo? – Is mise,
