Madam, - I appreciated the charity of Father John Feighery's review of John Cornwell's book The Pope in Winter (Book Reviews, December 4th).
On page 76 of his book, Mr Cornwell describes Sean MacBride as a Communist! On page 201 he says Pius IX made J.H. Newman a cardinal. Three years after the death of Pius IX, Leo XIII made J.H. Newman a cardinal. - Yours, etc.,
