Sir, – How can Johnny Watterson justify the use of the word "magical" ("Taylor stands tallest on a magical night at the Garden", Sport, May 2nd) when describing an "event" in which a person tries, over a series of 10 rounds, to bounce an opponent's brain around their skull, particularly as the devastating long-term consequences of such "events" are now beyond doubt. This is not sport and it's certainly never "magical". It is a barbaric, cruel and bloodthirsty spectacle. – Yours, etc,

Sir, – Violence is an integral part of boxing. It cannot exist without it. Looking at the photograph of the two women boxers and their ravaged faces, how can we call it a “sport”? – Yours, etc,
