Broadband adverts not up to speed

Sir, – I have often wondered what life would be like if other businesses were allowed to operate under the same rules as internet service providers.

For example , a tailor could offer you “up to” a full suit while actually only providing a waistcoat for the same price.

How about “up to” a full car and then getting three wheels and no steering wheel, but at full price as you contracted to buy whatever they provided.

A restaurant could offer “up to” a full Irish breakfast, which might consist of a bit of fried egg, half a sausage, a squirt of tea without milk and a quarter slice of toast. Again you would have to pay full price as, by sitting down and ordering, you would have entered into a contract with the restaurant. – Yours, etc,
