Sir, - The headline and first paragraph of your report (The Irish Times, June 25th) on John Bruton's paper on the peace process does not properly represent the balanced nature of Mr Bruton's approach.
He did not "assail" the Taoiseach's position. He simply drew attention to the extent of the change in Mr Ahern's position since February. He did not say that no concession on the time of decommissioning should have been made at all by the Taoiseach, but rather that it should not have been made without a quid pro quo from those representing the paramilitaries.
So far, there is no public indication of an equivalent softening of stance by them and that is the basis of Mr Bruton's concern. - Yours, etc., Niall O Muilleoir, National Press and Public Relations Offier, Fine Gael,
