Sir, - In recent weeks, a number of writers have put forward suggestions as to how the Minister for Finance should spend the financial windfall generated by the Celtic Tiger.

It would appear to me that the most prudent use for the current Budget surplus would be to reduce the national debt, thereby reducing the annual interest bill. In one single stroke, the Minister would be improving the financial position of every man, woman and child in the country. - Yours, etc.,
