Sir, – Well done to the residents of the south inner city on their protest against the dangers posed to them and their children by the huge volume of construction traffic to two building sites near their homes (News, February 16th). They say a safety plan must be agreed as children walking to school, parents with buggies and residents trying to go about their daily lives do not feel safe.
“Do not feel safe” are the words we used in a letter to Fingal County Council – asking that some safety measures could be put in place to slow traffic down in the centre of our town and on the local roads. We see parents with buggies and small children on narrow footpaths, and elderly people trying to get past bus stops inches away from speeding lorries and cars. The city and county councils of Dublin are not doing enough to protect pedestrians. – Yours, etc,
JOAN REIDY,
Malahide,
Co Dublin.
