Sir, - Like thousands of other people I was seriously inconvenienced this week by traffic disruption due to President Clinton's visit. However, the bulk of this disruption was caused not by the President's motorcade but by the many cars used to ferry ministers and our own dignitaries to and from functions.
Twice, I was forced by motorcycle gardai to stop and then mount the pavement so that ministers and their wives or husbands could drive at speeds well in excess of the speed limit and against the flow of traffic into or out of the Phoenix Park. This is unacceptable behaviour in a so-called Republic.
Our elected representatives do not become superior beings when they are installed as ministers. Given the recent revelations of political scandals they might try behaving with a bit more humility and a little less arrogance towards the rest of us. - Yours, etc.,
David Roe, Phibsboro, Dublin 7.
