Colin Davidson’s ‘Silent Testimony’

Sir, – Further to Gemma Tipton's piece on portraiture ("Ideas for 2016 – A year to paint a portrait", Arts and Ideas, December 29th), I happened to see the Colin Davidson exhibition referred to – Silent Testimony – at the Ulster Museum a few weeks ago. It is a moving record of lives damaged and even destroyed during the Troubles. No blood or gore – just a series of portraits accompanied by a short account of the loss suffered by the individual portrayed. I hope the exhibition will go on view down here. Its sombre message should be of particular interest to people too young to have lived through that period, and a reminder of the terrible things that were done on this island in the recent past. – Yours, etc,
