Sir, I write in reference to a letter (September 12th) regarding the release of our film Michael Collin The release of this in both the UK and Ireland is not contingent on approvals from any government body, as claimed by the writer. We are not required to seek government approve for the release of any of our films.
Michael Collins is being handled in exactly the same way as all our other films. We are obliged only to seek a certificate from the British Board of Film Censors (and, indeed, a similar seal of approval from the Irish film censor). There has been no government or state involvement, or interference of any description, in the release plans of Michael Collin's, nor will there be.
The film is currently lodged with the statutory censor boards in both countries. Immediately upon receipt of their certificate of censorship, Michael Collins will, I am delighted to advise, be released in the normal fashion. I hope this sets the record straight and clears up any confusion. Yours, etc., Warner Bros, London W1.
