Colm O'Gorman and the PDs

Madam, - I object strongly to Vincent Browne's lambasting of Colm O'Gorman for his decision to run for the PDs in the next election…

Madam, - I object strongly to Vincent Browne's lambasting of Colm O'Gorman for his decision to run for the PDs in the next election (Opinion, May 2nd). Irish politics needs Ireland's brightest and best, and I personally hope that Colm O'Gorman goes as far as he can in politics.

Would it ever dawn on Mr Browne that Colm O'Gorman just wants to make a difference in public life, and he has the vision to move beyond narrow categories of "left" and "right" on the political spectrum?

All the recent criticisms of Mr O'Gorman merely illustrate a rather unsavoury streak in Irish people: we like to build people up and then knock them down. It is very easy to throw mud from the sidelines.

I applaud Colm O'Gorman. And who knows - with him on board, maybe the PDs could get that injection of social consciousness that Mr Browne finds so lacking in them. Or are the PDs completely irredeemable in his view? - Yours, etc,
