Madam, – The item regarding the scorecard and Countess de Markievicz's reputation (as described in an auction catalogue) as a “hotshot” is rather misleading (Home News, April 16th). The countess, like her sister Eva, was short-sighted from birth and it is doubtful that in 1916 and close to 50 years of age she was any kind of hotshot. When she shot Constable Michael Lahiff in St Stephen’s Green, she did so at about arm’s length, a very close range indeed. – Yours, etc,
