Madam, - Discussing Irish prospects of winning medals in future Olympics, Minister for Sport Martin Cullen said: "If you look at the success of the Afro-Caribbean athletes, it would be virtually impossible for a white person to win a [sprint] medal" (The Irish Times, August 26th).
I hope the Minister is not writing off the chances of a future non-white Irish Olympic champion athlete in this category. - Yours, etc,
