A chara, - Roisin Ingle's article on Irish cyclists (July 10th) and Jim Walsh's letter on Harry Reynolds (July 22nd) prompt me to introduce the name of an unsung hero of Irish cycling, John J. Kinahan of Clareen, Co Offaly. In the early years of this century, Kinahan set records and won championships in Ireland and the United States.

Since many of his deeds were performed at the Jones's Road venue that is now Croke Park, it is fitting to note that Kinahan's athletic prowess has been passed on to another generation in the hurling skills of his grandson Kevin Kinahan, Offaly's all-star fullback. - Is mise, Joe Kenny,
