Madam, – I welcome the Dáil debate and vote next Wednesday on the IMF loan. All TDs must have full access to all the documents involved. There must be clarity about the terms and conditions, including repayments, interest, collateral and penalties, before the TDs vote. Abstention on such a vital matter is not a credible option for any politician. In this case, it is their absolute responsibility to vote in the best interest of the country.
There should also be a Dáil vote on the terms of the loans from the ECB, the European Commission, the UK, Sweden and Denmark. We should compare the terms offered with those agreed with Iceland this week.
These loan deals will dictate the budgets for the years ahead. The people who will pay the price are entitled to know what is agreed in their name. – Yours, etc,
