Madam, - Surely those concerned with the Special Olympics should have a particular awareness of the importance of preserving the health of the nation. Additionally, politicians who have the power to take preventive actions to reduce the risk of introducing SARS to Ireland should act now.

At the very least competitors and their entourages from China, Hong Kong and Singapore should not attend the games.

If SARS comes to Ireland because of the games, will politicians do their usual Pontius Pilate act again? - Yours etc.,

Madam, - The current policy on SARS is farcical. That a person who could be carrying the most lethal virus our country has known is not quarantined immediately in a hospital upon presentation, and that subsequently they can go "missing" around Dublin for some hours is scandalous.

I have worked in many organisations. Problems always go to the top. Once again our Taoiseach and Government have failed us. It is their responsibility to ensure that this country is run properly and to intervene where the system fails. - Yours, etc.,
