Sir, – While extending my admiration and congratulations to the participants in the SSE Airtricity Dublin Marathon I am somewhat alarmed to learn that the event is to take place on a Sunday next year.
I am curious as to how much engagement there has been with the residents’ associations along the route in relation to this change.
A Sunday marathon will add a further layer of inconvenience to that already experienced by many and will undoubtedly affect both personal and family routines. Dublin is a large city and some consideration should be given to a possible change in route even on alternate years. If the same route and times are continued, more inconvenience will be experienced by those who, by reason of their location, suffer frequent enforced incarceration on bank holiday weekends.
