Madam, - In the interest of maintaining some sense of community among people living in rural areas, particularly the elderly, and taking account of statistics suggesting that most drink-driving accidents occur among the young, would it not seem sensible to review whether, on balance, the alcohol limit should be increased for drivers aged over 60?
Is it appropriate to punish a sector of society that is already isolated, lacking mobility and generally incapable of excess with a rule that is certainly appropriate for younger drivers, who, unlike their careful and experienced elders, still entertain the notion of immortality? - Yours, etc,
EUGENE TANNAM. Monalea Park, Firhouse, Dublin 24.
