Sir, - Waiting for a bus at seven o'clock on a cold winter's morning, I couldn't help dwelling on the "One Life" series in the business section. Most of the successful business people, when asked about commuting, said they drove to work and it took 15 minutes (e.g. Maurice Pratt and Jean Ricoux). This is significantly better than my 45 minutes from Santry to Lower Grand Canal Street (by Dublin Bus). Do any successful business people use the bus? The message from your column is: if you want to get on, get off the bus and get a car. As a unsuccessful Cork band said, "only losers take the bus".

There needs to be a quantum leap in service, especially in terms of regularity and sustained reliability. This would make the bus a real option and not the last option. - Yours, etc.,
