Sir, - While both sides in the current bus dispute have valid points to make, the only party really suffering is the travelling public. The unions risk losing what little sympathy they have among the public by continuing their current action. Why can they not operate a full service but "forget" to collect any fares? This would:

provide an essential service which no-one has a right to stop in the first place;

increase their popularity with the public;

retain the undivided attention of management and Government alike.
