Madam, - I don't know where Michael O'Leary (September 7th) is coming from. Why is he so against the notion of a metro to Dublin airport, or has he another agenda? Most European cities have a train or metro to their airport so why not Dublin? Why does he assume only 20 per cent of airport passengers would use it?
I believe most people would use public transport if they knew they could avoid traffic jams and be guaranteed to arrive on time. Roll on the metro, the sooner the better. - Yours, etc,
GEMMA HENSEY, The Quay, Westport, Co Mayo.
Madam, - While Martin Cullen states (Opinion & Analysis, September 4th) that "the whole basis of Transport 21 in Dublin is the development of an integrated network with regular opportunities for planned interchange across the public transport system", it is incredible that none of the proposed metro routes to and from the airport provide a link with the largest transport interchange in the city centre: Busarus-Connolly.
Instead, passengers wishing to travel to the airport who arrive at this interchange by (a) DART from suburban Dublin, (b) rail from Belfast/Sligo, or (c) by bus from anywhere in the country will have to board the red Luas line A for a number of stops and alight at Abbey Street, before hauling their luggage for several minutes along O'Connell Street to the nearest metro station.
Thanks, but I might just continue using the car. - Yours, etc,
JEREMY WALES, Northbrook Road, Dublin 6.
