Sir, - Some 20,000 people are reputed to have moved into the centre of Dublin in the past five years, joining thousands of others who have lived here for decades. Yet no street-level recycling facilities are available to the citizens. With this in mind the exhortation to use fewer plastic bags when shopping ("Dubliners urged to cut their domestic waste", The Irish Times, October 21st) is somewhat trite .

The public will cheerfully recycle if given the facilities. In the meantime we will continue to despoil Co Kildare. - Yours, etc.,
