Exploring the faith of our fathers and mothers

Madam, - Róisín Ingle is quite correct in saying that "we don't need to belong to a religious group to explore our spirituality". However, I think it a pity not to first of all explore the religious group to which our parents belong. After all, if we value our parents, should we not examine the basis for the values they pass on to us?

I think it sad that so many today are willing to devote so much time to studying every other religion except the one they were baptised in. To find happiness in this life we all need "to explore our spirituality". In my opinion a good place to start is with the one of which we have most knowledge. Róisín is correct that "inherited religious allegiance" is not of real benefit. Unless we make it our own, and in doing so discover that it is the means of leading a happy life, it is useless.

Hopefully, in this unhappy materialistic and frenetic age, more and more people will realise that it is only in self development and spiritual renewal that true happiness is found. - Yours, etc,
