Madam, – Education reform in recent years has been largely concerned with reducing class sizes; the logic being that children in smaller classes get more individual attention. However, this could also be achieved by extending the school year.
Three-month summer holidays, an outdated legacy of our agricultural past, now represent not only a massively inefficient use of public service staff and infrastructure, but also an injustice to our children. They may not thank us now for cutting down their summer holidays, but we’ll all benefit in the long run. – Yours, etc,
