Madam, - A few days before Christmas I ventured into the new Topshop on St Stephen's Green to do some shopping.
Toward the rear of the store I noticed a poster of a young girl modelling some of the Topshop clothes.
From her skeletal appearance it seemed to me that the image might have been more appropriately featured on a Trócaire box rather than advertising clothes to young girls.
This kind of advertising sends out the wrong message to impressionable young women and only fuels the insecurity of self-image from which many women of all age groups suffer.
That millions of people in the world suffer from a lack of food while the fashion industry continues to encourage such unrealistic images of young women is indeed a cruel irony. - Yours, etc,
