Madam, - Sinéad McLaughlin of Fianna Fáil (December 13th) calls for the Taoiseach to "address the gender imbalance within the party and the Government" when choosing the next Minister for State at the Department of Transport. If he did promote a woman that would mean, by my calculations, 67 per cent of female FF TDs would be Ministers or Ministers of State, compared to 33 per cent of their male colleagues. Does this sort of move really bring us closer to gender equality? - Yours, etc,
