Sir, – Today marks my 10th anniversary as team leader of a community mental health team in the northeast. Judith Crosbie’s article regarding mental health services (“Mental health of young at risk over cuts, HSE warns”, Front Page, January 3rd) touched on points that are sadly familiar to me. I work with a wonderful group of professionals, both clinical and management, who do their utmost to deliver quality mental healthcare. Despite our best efforts, resource limitations have dictated that 10 years later, neither a psychologist nor occupational therapist has ever been allocated to the team. We are certainly not unique in this regard but these deficits clearly demonstrate the difficulties people face when attempting to source psychological therapies and social or occupational rehabilitation following an episode of mental illness. – Yours, etc,
