Gardens of delight

Sir, – Further to Caitriona Lawlor’s letter (February 3rd), gardens absorb rainwater and so help to alleviate flooding. Maintaining permeable surfaces such as grass in gardens is something positive that we can all do to minimise the amount of surface water that gets redirected to already overstretched drainage systems. So by saving your garden, you could be doing your bit to save the planet, and maybe your sanity while you are at it. – Yours, etc,

SHEELAGH MOONEY,

Ardagh, Co Longford.
