Sir, – In recent years we have become used to Halloween ads starting in the first week of September, the Christmas equivalents beginning as soon as the Halloween decorations are down and Easter eggs going on sale the day after Ash Wednesday.
However, this surely takes the biscuit. This week, while walking through the Douglas Court Shopping Centre, I observed, in Eason’s bookshop, a “Back to School” promotion.
Given that all national schools are still in session and that a large proportion of secondary schools are hosting the Leaving and Junior Cert examinations and are therefore still open, this has to be a record.
