Madam, – I find it shocking that the still unregulated VHI Healthcare has announced premium increases of up to 45 per cent for the coming year. This at a time of serious financial stress on most of its members, by a company that always bemoans the lack of fair pricing and competition in the Irish health insurance market. There is clearly no benefit for the ordinary taxpayer in owning and funding a behemoth like VHI Healthcare.
At least competitors in the market are held accountable by their shareholders.
