Madam, – I am delighted to note that Killarney’s Town Council has passed bylaws mandating the use of dung catchers by the town’s jarveys (Home News, October 6th). I note, furthermore, that “the discreet bags have proved a resounding success”.
Would that such wisdom and common sense were applicable in Dublin. Here, we are – quite rightly – exhorted by our Council to clean up after our dogs, and threatened with substantial financial and criminal consequences if we do not.
In the centre of our city, however, our own jarveys – and their equine charges – may do as they wish, with the inevitable and revolting results. (And not the fresh air of a Kerry National Park anywhere near). I have raised this matter (indeed matters) with our council, but have got nowhere.
A weekend in Killarney for them all? (Or perhaps a value mid- week break.) – Yours, etc,
