Sir, - The level of racism in Ireland is quite distressing. I come from a country in Southern Africa and have been working here for about a year. It is shocking the number of times one has to "ignore" racial slurs.
Recently, my wife was confronted my one man who simply said to her: "Go home, n*gg**!" twice.
A few weeks ago some friends and I had to walk away from racially degrading comments being made by some white men as we left a local club.
Even immigration officials seem to target black people. Coming through passport control at Dublin Airport, a friend of mine with a British passport was questioned as to how he had a British passport. Meanwhile, white visitors with English passports were allowed to enter without any hassles.
There are many examples that I could mention, including an attack by white people while in a Dublin bus, but I think that my point has been made. Are we expected to apologise for being black? - Yours, etc.,
Mambo Mbizi, Castleknock, Dublin 15.
