Sir, – Kathryn D’Arcy (January 26th) calls for policy makers regulating alcohol sales to be aware of our reducing alcohol consumption per capita, which she claims is nearing European norms.
Unfortunately she omitted to refer to the high level of non- drinkers in Irish society which artificially reduces the per capita alcohol consumption.Taking the high number of non-drinkers into account we are unfortunately at the higher end of the alcohol consumption scale. – Yours, etc,
