Sir, -How low will this Government stoop? The appeal against the Jamie Sinnot award was an absolute outrage and the fact that it has been successful has only heightened my anger at Mr Ahern and his colleagues.

Can they not see the blatant hypocrisy they practise At a time when money has never been more plentiful in this country they begrudge a severely handicapped young man and his family the basic right to an education.

It has been a long and hard battle to get the governments to even acknowledge that autism is a serious problem and with this appeal they have effectively told us that they don't care anyway.

They can bluster as much as they like about their reason for appealing the High Court ruling but they cannot hide the fact that this was a despicable decision. Mr Michael Woods should hang his head in shame.
