Madam, - With reference to Eamon Delaney's letter of justification for the "War on Terror" (Oct 22nd), one is inclined to ask why similar Anglo-American intervention was not forthcoming in situations which were every bit as objectionable as Saddam Hussein's, e.g. East Timor, Angola, Somalia and Rwanda.

One might also point out that America is not merely constantly "developing" weapons of mass destruction, but has been in possession of such weapons for 60 years. Indeed, it is the only country in the world to have so far deployed such weapons during a war.

Furthermore, its social and political administration today is far from the model one would hope for of a just, liberal democracy. - Yours, etc.,
