Sir, – I understand the ladies football final is being moved back a week because the replay of the men’s hurling final is now being played that day. How wrong and unfair this is, especially for people who had made arrangements and hotel bookings to attend and perhaps now might not be able to attend the rearranged date.
The fairer solution would be to either play extra time to decide the winner of the men’s hurling final on the day, or if it has to go to a replay then let it be played on a Saturday instead.
I would also question in general the playing of the finals on a Sunday, especially for people with work on Monday – this year from Donegal, Mayo, Galway and Kilkenny. They are in Dublin at 5pm on a Sunday evening and many will not get home by midnight. Both hurling and football finals should be moved to Saturday and then all the fans could decide whether to go home afterwards or spend the night in Dublin and travel home at their leisure on Sunday. – Yours, etc,
