Madam, - On Tuesday night's Prime Time, Pat Doherty of Sinn Féin declared that he wished to "condemn unreservedly" the murder of Denis Donaldson in Co Donegal.

However in June 1996, Mr Doherty refused to condemn the killing of Det Garda Jerry McCabe, saying: "I abhor the politics of condemnation".

Has Mr Doherty undergone a Pauline conversion? Or is it just that, in the eyes of Sinn Féin, some cold-blooded killings are more deserving of condemnation than others? - Yours, etc,
