Madam, - Fintan O'Toole (Opinion, February 20th) paints an incisive and depressing picture of the Irish political landscape in the aftermath of the Labour Party leader's conversion to the PD/Fianna Fáil tax strategy.

Prior to Mr Rabbitte's conversion there may have been no real political opposition to the current coalition, but there was an alternative analysis and alternative policies - there was a political choice. Now there is none. I may have voted Labour in the last general election, but I will not vote for the "PDs for Slow Learners", as Labour has become.

Labour has no raison d'être now. If there is no argument for change, why should we change? In your too-evident elation at Mr Rabbitte's antics (Editorial, February 12th) you seemed to miss this point. - Yours, etc,
