Sir, - Rosita Boland's roundup of literary journals (Books, October 2nd) showed a bias towards Dublin that was predictable, but still worth highlighting. Of the four journals mentioned, all of which are Dublin-based, Ms Boland notes that one is "short of material", another is "tired" and a third is "egotistic". No mention is made of thriving, regularly produced and lively literary journals such as Sligo's Force 10, Galway's ROPES, The Cuirt Journal and The Burning Bush, Cork's Literary Review and Belfast's Brangle and Honest Ulsterman - all of which are available in good bookshops throughout the country, and in Dublin too. - Yours, etc.,
John McAuliffe, North Brunswick Street, Dublin 7.
The piece in question was the first of a planned series of reports on Irish literary journals. We plan to cover as many as possible in time. - Lit. Ed.
