Sir, I write with regard to the new LRT System for Dublin and in particular a recent article in your paper, which stated that Dublin Bus are proposing to run the Harcourt Street line across Ranelagh at street level, rather than restoring the existing embankment and bridges. Surely this is a nonsense, with an existing artery already severely clogged with commuter traffic. The additional problems which would be incurred as a result of large trams moving up and down the Ranelagh road, could easily be avoided by putting the trams on the existing railway line.
Despite the increase in cost, the speed at which the trams could travel over the existing embankment surely would add to the convenience of the LUAS System and benefit all in the long run. Yours, etc., Ranelagh, Dublin 6.
