Sir, – John Stafford’s letter (August 30th) is spot-on as regards construction of “cut and cover” at bus/Luas intersections.That method is not used enough at busy intersections. For example, the rail crossing at the Merrion Gates could well use a cut and cover crossing to facilitate traffic flow.
However, the suggestion of a Luas tunnelling under Trinity College won’t fly because Trinity successfully fought the Metro North’s plan to burrow underground tunnels under TCD proving that serious damage to Trinity College’s historic building would occur. – Yours, etc,
