Sir, - I nearly passed out with shock on seeing that one of the most beautiful buildings in Dublin - the old ICS premises in Westmoreland Street - has been turned into a Manchester United "superstore".
I thought there was a plan in place to clean up the streets of Dublin and remove the sort of places that are turning this city into a tacky, neon-lit dump, but instead it seems to be encouraged.
I thought Westmoreland Street was getting a new image with a beautiful new hotel and some nice cafes. The old ICS building is a magnificent architectural structure which should be honoured by having a grand hotel, or a major department store, put there. - Yours, etc.,
John Cussen, Lucan, Co Dublin.
