Madam, - Áras an Uachtaráin has been mentioned recently in relation to prominent affairs of State

Madam, - Áras an Uachtaráin has been mentioned recently in relation to prominent affairs of State. Some newsreaders on radio and TV pronounce it as follows: "Arus an Ookterawn". Many TDs, as well radio and TV presenters, do not seem to be aware that there is no such place as the "Dawl" and no such party as "Feena Fawl".

New additions to the list of mispronounced words are words such as version, diversion, etc, which we hear as "verge-yun", "diverge-yun", etc. One prominent radio presenter regularly pronounces "news" as "nooze", newspaper as "noozepaper". This makes one wonder how "pew" should be pronounced. - Yours, etc,
