Sir, - When the Taoiseach set up the National Millennium Committee with Seamus Brennan TD as Chairman, it was reported that £30 million was to be set aside to mark the millennium.
It was also reported that at least one major project would have a religious significance; in other words, it would mark the 2000th anniversary of the birth of Christ.
While millions of this so called millennium money have been spent on forestry (£1.6 million), the Irish World Heritage Centre in Manchester (£2 million), the Battle of the Boyne site (£500,000), lightkeepers' houses (£500,000), Childrens' Hour (£2 million), hospital waiting rooms (£1 million), the reintroduction of the golden eagle, etc., very little if any seems to have been used to mark what the millennium was all about - 2000 years of Christianity.
Should we now have another public inquiry to find out where exactly the millennium money went? - Yours, etc.,
John O'Halloran, Bantry Road, Dublin 9.
