Sir, - Much as I admire Vanessa Fielding of Vesuvius Productions, she is wrong in saying that Mother Courage and Her Children has never been performed in Ireland ("Showing a Genuine Courage", May 12th).
The Eric Bentley translation was directed by Hilton Edwards in the Gaiety Theatre on April 27th, 1959, for two weeks, with Eithne Dunne in the title role and Patrick Bedford, Milo O'Shea and Lelia Doolan as her three children. Other wellknown actors featuring in the production were John Cowley (may be better known as Tom Riordan), Christopher Casson, Charles Mitchell, Laurie Morton, Brian Phelan and Charles Roberts.
